Devastated transport links could bring chaos to chemical supplies in the Los Angeles earthquake zone, Leslie Carmichael from Californian consultancy SRI International has warned. Defence firms and other end users of chemical products could find business grinding to a halt as suppliers are unable to reach LA. 'Manufacturers could well lose a week or more of production,' Carmichael said. There is little large-scale chemical production in the area affected by the earthquake, and, so far, there have been no reports of major damage to any plants.
