THE SOUTH Korean naphtha cracker and polyolefins maintenance shutdown season is now in full swing. Hanyang started the season with 40 days of maintenance from 4 April-13 May at its 350 000 tonne/year cracker at Yeochon. Yukong's 400 000 tonne/year Ulsan 2 cracker was to shut down for 37 days from 18 April. Hyundai's 400 000 tonne/year unit at Daesan is shut for 33 days from 15 April, and KPIC's unit for 20 days from 21 April.
Yukong, Daelim, Hyundai, Hanyang and Lucky Ltd are also shutting down a total of six ldPE units in April/May. Yukong, Daelim, Hyundai, KPIC and Hanyang are closing one hdPE unit each in April/May, with Lucky Petrochemical to shut down its unit in September. And Yukong, Daelim, Samsung, Hyundai, KPIC and Tongyang Nylon are seeing PP shutdowns in April/May, with Tongyang planning a second turnaround in October. The polymer plants are shutting for 20-30 days.
