Air Liquide has acquired for around FF300m ($56.6m) the 270GWh electrical co-generation unit of Italy's Energheia. Energheia also produces 570 000 tonne/year of steam as well as other supplies for the local chemical industry such as decarbonised water, compressed air and nitrate from its site in Pioltello-Rodano near Milan. This is the third co-generation unit acquired by Air Liquide - it already has one onstream in Texas and another about to come onstream in the Netherlands. Total production capacity of 425MW electric power and 1000 tonne/h steam is part of Air Liquide's diversification policy and development strategy. So far, energy only accounts for 1% of Air Liquide sales.
