NORSK HYDRO reported an 8.7% increase in operating income in the first quarter of 1994 to NKr1.59bn ($215.7m) from NKr1.46bn a year earlier. The impact of lower oil prices was largely offset by increased oil production. Sales rose 5% to NKr17.3bn from NKr16.5bn in the year earlier quarter.
The agriculture division posted a 71% increase in operating income to NKr430m from NKr251m due mainly to better fertiliser prices. Industrial chemicals achieved a better result.
Operating income for petrochemicals increased 18.8% to NKr133m from NKr112m, again mainly as a result of higher prices.
