Gaf-Hüls Chemie (GhC), a 50:50 joint venture between Hüls and US company International Specialty Products, will expand 1,4 butanediol capacity by 10 000 tonne/year to 90 000 tonne/year at its Marl site in Germany. New capacity is due onstream in H2 1997. The company said it will use surplus acetylene output from Hüls at Marl, resulting from recently made process improvements, to increase 1,4 butanediol capacities at a reasonable cost.
