Russian gas giant, Gazprom, intends to invest $240m in a new methanol plant at Kohtla-Järve in Estonia. Product from the proposed 365 000 tonne/year plant will be sold to the chemical industry with two-thirds of production being exported specifically to German clients. Last year, Gazprom held an international competition to identify the most suitable technology for this venture. A decision is expected this month from the eight processes shortlisted.
