Phillips Petroleum will produce 40m lb/year (18 150 tonne/year) of polyester-grade dicyclopentadiene at its refinery and petrochemical complex at Sweeny in Texas, US, starting next year. DCPD is a byproduct of Phillips' ethylene production at Sweeny, where ethylene capacity is being increased from 3.6bn to 4.5bn lb/year. Engineering work by Bechtel Corp has begun. It involves restarting and modifying an idle hydrotreating unit.
