KAFCO is expected to restart ammonia and urea production last week, following its first maintenance turnaround.
'Maintenance work is almost complete and we expect to start up soon', Kafco's managing director Manucher Towhidi told ACN.
The plant has yet to be accepted from general contractor, Chiyoda Corp. A performance test is planned for end-April or early May. Towhidi is hopeful the plant will then finally be handed over in May.
'Kafco's maintenance turnaround has progressed smoothly and we are hopeful that rectification work to correct certain mechanical problems which have dogged the plant since it first began operations will be successful,' Towhidi said.
Kafco has exported ammonia and urea from its own jetty during the civil turmoil despite blockages at Chittagong port. A 15 000-tonne cargo of urea finished loading on 31 March and lifted on 1 April for India.
