Air Product's joint venture company Bangkok Industrial Gas is to invest over US$50m in a new air separation facility in Thailand, to service leading steel producers.
The plant will supply gaseous oxygen, nitrogen and argon to Nakornthai Strip Mill, for use in the manufacture of hot rolled coil; NTS Steel Group for producing steel bar and wire rod; and BNS Steel Group for manufacturing deformed bar.
The new facility will also have the capacity to supply liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon to the growing merchant market around Bangkok. The plant is expected to come onstream in the summer of 1997.
'Our plant at Bo Win will serve the largest single on-site/pipeline requirement in the history of the Kingdom, positioning Bangkok Industrial Gas for additional growth in the industrial corridor between and including Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard,' said general manager, Luis Urrutia.
He added that, with the plant in Bo Win and its investments in two other existing major industrial gas facilities in Mab Ta Phut, the venture is in a strong position to meet future demand for these gases, which are growing with the strong expansion of the Thai industrial sector - particularly in metals, petrochemicals, food and electronics.
