Neste opens first Chinese plant

Finnish petrochemical giant Neste has celebrated the opening of its first production unit in China with the inauguration of Neste Polyester (Kunshan) Co at Kunshan. The company claims to be the first to introduce locally manufactured ready colour mixed unsaturated polyester gelcoats and topcoats to the Chinese fibre-reinforced plastics industry.

'The opening of this plant confirms Neste's commitment to strengthen our position in Asia, where Neste Chemicals has been quite active for some time now,' Georges Marzloff, senior executive vice president of Neste, told Asia-Pacific Chemicals.

He added that the fibre-reinforced plastics industry is growing rapidly in China, and is already larger than any national market in Europe and second only to Japan in Asia.

'Production at our 3000 tonne/year plant has started smoothly and we now offer our Chinese customers a full range of high quality gelcoats to all applications, and meeting all international standards,' said Heikki Sierla, general manager of Neste Polyester (Kunshan) Co.

Neste recently announced it is to construct a new gelcoats plant in Poland.
