IMC Global to rein in potash

The US fertiliser producer IMC Global is to cut back its potash production by an estimated 600 000 tonne/year in response to a temporary downturn in export sales and the late start of North America's spring planting season. IMC Global has total capacity of 9m tonne/year of potash.
Output will be reduced at four of the six mines located in Saskatchewan, Canada, from June through to mid-August by bringing forward maintenance and summer shutdowns. The mines affected by the shutdown are: K1 and K2 in Esterhazy, Central Canada Potash in Colonsay and Kalium mine in Belle Plaine.
