Dutch industry group UCB has announced a 38% rise in profits to BF4.2bn ($134m) after tax and exceptional items for the first half of the year. The period was marked by major changes in the films and packaging sector, with the sale of the packaging division to the Australian group Amcor and the acquisition of Courtaulds' cellulose film activities. UCB is confident that the prospects for the remainder of the year are favourable. 'While chemicals sales made a slower start in Europe, pharma sales are set to progress strongly,' said the company.
