Gujarat firm plans polyacetals

GUJARAT Narmada Valley Fertiliser Co (GNFC) plans to set up a 10 000 tonne/year polyacetals facility in Bharuch, Gujarat.

GNFC also plans to double its 50 000 tonne/year acetic acid plant in two phases. Talks are underway with BP Chemicals, the technology supplier for the existing plant which was commissioned in September 1995.

The Rs2.3bn (US$64.4m) polyacetal facility is to be financed through internal accruals and borrowings. The Industrial Development Bank of India will appraise the project.

Methanol feedstock will be sourced from the Indian major's facility in Bharuch. GNFC is negotiating for the transfer of technology with two European companies.

The company is also setting up a Rs450m 25 500 m³/hour synthesis gas generation unit. Synthesis gas will be used as feedstock to produce 90 tonne/day (29 700 tonne/year) of methanol and additional ammonia to improve the reliability of the existing ammonia plant.

GNFC is setting up a third gasifier train at a cost of Rs450m. Ammonia production is expected to increase by 20 000 tonne/year due to the higher reliability. GNFC is jointly promoted by the Gujarat state government and Gujarat State Fertiliser Co.
