Tosoh will start its 130 000 tonne/year caustic soda expansion at Nanyo, Japan, by mid-December. The company expects commercial production in January 1997. Tosoh's existing plant was shut down at the end of October in preparation for the startup. The expansion brings the company's total capacity at Nanyo to 696 000 tonne/year. Tosoh is the largest producer of caustic soda in Japan.
