THAILAND's Board of Investment has given approval for Thasco Chemical to build four projects in Mab Ta Phut, Rayong, which cost a total of Baht1.495bn (US$57.78m).
They are to produce 41 000 tonne/year of chlorine gas, 50 000 tonne/year of hydrochloric acid, 45 000 tonne/year of caustic soda billets and 25 000 tonne/year of soda ash. The latter two are Thasco's first such investments.
All the projects will be built by Toyo-Thai. Construction for the first three projects is underway and will be completed in October, a Thasco senior official said.
They will start up in the middle of next year.
The soda ash project will be built later and is scheduled to start up in Q4 next year.
Thasco's chlorine gas capacity will reach a total of 110 000 tonne/year and its hydrochloric acid capacity will reach 240 000 tonne/year when expansions are completed.
