Bayer film products subsidiary Agfa-Gevaert has signed a letter of intent to negotiate the acquisition of DuPont's graphic films and offset printing plates activities, which have annual sales of nearly DM900m ($531m). Production facilities are in the UK and Germany. Agfa's printing plates business, including the units acquired from Hoechst in 1995, represented about half of Agfa's DM7.5bn annual sales in 1996. An acquisition agreement would be subject to approval by both companies' boards and cartel authorities.
