Degussa takes over Carbogal

Degussa, the world's second largest manufacturer of carbon black, behind Cabot, has exercised its option to take over 100% of Portuguese carbon black producer Carbogal (Carbonos des Portual). It acquired the 97.4% stake previously held by Petrogal at a public tender. The Frankfurt group has long licensed technology to the Portuguese firm, which has capacities for 35 000 tonne/year of industrial blacks and a workforce of 80.
