Radical drugs switch for India?

A RADICAL change in Indian drug-pricing policy involving a shift in control from the manufacturer to the distributor has been suggested by the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI).

The OPPI said it is prepared to provide medicines at cost plus a nominal margin to any distribution system set up by the government, provided the present drug-pricing policy is withdrawn. OPPI represents domestic and multinational pharmaceutical majors.

The move comes as the Indian government finalises the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) to implement the 1995 Drug Price Control Order (DPCO) and resolve differences over pricing.
