The Alberta Energy and Utilities Board has approved Dow Chemical Canada's application to expand its ethylene plant at Fort Saskatchewan. Dow had requested a further 50% expansion and an extension to end-2018 of its original permit. The proposed Can$183m (US$134.2m) expansion will double capacity and will be complete by 1 July 1998. Dow's original permit allowed a 50% expansion from 1999 to 2014.
