Dow Chemical Canada has received approval from the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board to expand its Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, ethylene plant. The new permit is extended to the end of 2018 and allows Dow to double the plant's capacity. The original 1990 approval allowed for a 50% expansion starting in 1999 and a permit period to the end of 2014. Ethylene production will be expanded to over 1m tonne/year by October 1998.
