Hoecsa, the Trevira/Sabanci 50:50 joint venture which was established last month, has broken ground on its polyester project in Izmit, Turkey (ECN 7 October 1996 p38). The $105m plant will produce 14 000 tonne/year tyre cord using Trevira's HMLS technology and then convert the yarn using a Sabanci process into state of the art dipped fabric. More than 250 people will be employed when commercial production starts in early 1999. Trevira currently produces advanced HMLS fibres in facilities located at North Carolina, US; Queretaro, Mexico; and Bobingen, Germany.
