Union Carbide has sold its Cansolv sulphur dioxide (SO2) scrubbing technology to a breakaway company of ex-employees. Montreal-based Cansolv Technologies, led by the process's inventor Leo Hakka, will offer worldwide licences to the power, refining, natural gas, sulphuric acid, smelter, and pulp/paper industries. Hakka will also further develop the process, which regenerably absorbs SO2 down to ppm levels in a selective organic amine solution.
