Dutch report claims tax could cut nitrogen levels

A tax on fertilisers could contribute to reducing nitrogen pollution in the European Union (EU), according to a recent report funded by the European Comission. The study, carried out by the Dutch Agricultural Economics Research Institute, aimed to determine the impact of agricultural and environmental policies on nitrogen surpluses and nitrate levels in water and how EU legislation has been interpreted by member states.
