Rhône-Poulenc Animal Nutrition and China's Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group are creating a cooperative joint venture in methionine, an amino acid used in poultry feed.
A new firm, located in Tianjin and with $36m of registered capital, will be set up, with Bohai Chemical holding a 70% stake.
The jv will be responsible for production, while R-P Animal Nutrition will be responsible for distribution of methionine in Chinese and international markets and provide technical assistance.
China is the second largest market for methionine and is experiencing rapid growth.
Bohai Chemical is one of China's larger chemicals concerns, with $1.2bn of assets and a listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Last year, it extended its jv with AgrEvo to include manufacture of anilofos herbicide and endosulfan insecticide, adding to deltamethrin insecticide. And earlier this year it signed a jv with Air Liquide to manufacture hydrogen gas.
