India GNVFC plans three chem projects

SINGAPORE (CNI)--India's Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers Company (GNVFC) said Tuesday it will build a polyacetal, acetic anhydride and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plant if it is unable to secure natural gas for its urea and power plant projects from the state of Gujarat.

A company official, who declined to be named, said the company is considering building a 10 000 tonne/year polyacetal plant in Bharuch, northwest India. In addition it is studying the possibility of building a PET and acetic anhydride plant of as yet undetermined size.

He added, "These projects will go ahead if we don't build the power and urea plants."

The estimated total investment for these three projects is Rs5.75bn ($159m).
