HOUSTON (CNI)--AlliedSignal Advanced Microelectronic Materials (AMM) has acquired its partner's stake in Nanoglass, a joint venture formed in 1996 to develop and market xerogel-type dielectrics for use in advanced integrated circuits.
Nanopore, the former partner in the joint venture, will continue to work closely with AMM to refine and commercialise Nanoglass.
Allied said consolidation of the Nanoglass technology within its AMM business unit strengthens its position in providing low k dielectric materials solutions to the global integrated circuit (IC) industry. The IC industry has been working to incorporate low k dielectric insulators in next-generation ICs in order to minimise circuit delays and other chip performance problems.
Dr. Neil Hendricks, director of strategic technologies for AlliedSignal Electronic Materials, called Nanoglass "unique" for its ease of processing and mechanical strength.
He said: "The IC industry prefers it, because chemically it's glass, the traditional IC insulator."
AlliedSignal Electronic Materials, based in Los Gatos, California, provides materials solutions to the global semiconductor and electronics industry.
