R-P Agro plant biotech jv finalised

LONDON (CNI)--Rhone-Poulenc Agro and French plant biotechnology company Biogemma said Wednesday they have finalised the creation of their Rhobio joint venture.

Based in Lyons, Rhobio will work on plant disease resistance and genetic engineering technology, including transformation techniques, transgenic expression systems and protein targeting. It will also build up gene libraries.

Claude Lescoffit, chairman of Biogemma's executive committee, is chairman of the new company and Rhone-Poulenc's scientific advisor Georges Freyssinet is director.
