Exchem Organics, a division of Exchem PLC, headquartered in Harwich, UK, has completed construction and installation of a new kilo-laboratory at its Great Oakley, Essex, site. The new facility took three month to complete and represents a "significant investment" of more than $100,000 for the company, says David Firth, business develop manager for fine chemicals.Exchem's core expertise is in nitration chemistry, and it produces building blocks for pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, as well as specialty dyestuffs and intermediates.
The company's Great Oakley, Essex, site has batch and continuous process capabilities already in place, and the addition of a kilo-lab allows for development work, such as the manufacture of quantities needed for early phase trial work, Dr. Firth explains. The company also plans to use the new lab to produce small volumes of high-value products for high-technology applications.
