Advanced Polymers New Entrapment System

Advanced Polymer Systems Inc. is introducing a new system based on its Microsponge entrapment technology that uses microscopic particles to hold entrapped dimethicone.

APS says the product "facilitates the formation of powder, emulsion and stick product forms for foundations, lipsticks, facial treatments, moisturizers, sun care products and other protectant products."

The entrapped dimethicone component of Microsponge 5700 dimethicone is a blend of 78 percent 350 cSt polydimethylsiloxane and 22 percent 1000 cSt polydimethylsiloxane.

"The polymer matrix helps to deliver the skin protectant qualities of dimethicone on the skin," the company says. "At a 2 percent concentration in formulations, the silicone in this entrapment would comply with FDA's OTC skin protectant monograph, subject to satisfying NF testing."
