RHONE-Poulenc Agro and Biogemma of France have finalized their agreement on the creation of a plant biotechnology joint venture that will build up gene libraries and genetic engineering technology on plant disease resistance.BAYER's Agfa-Gevaert Group has agreed to sell its copying systems business to Lanier Worldwide, a subsidiary of Harris Corporation of the US. The business, which Agfa no longer considers a core operation, had sales of $250 million last year, mostly in Europe.
NORSK Hydro reported a 56 percent drop to NKr 377 ($51 million) in operating income in fertilizers in the first quarter of the year, relative to a year ago, despite strong quarter-on-quarter growth in sales. Western European fertilizer prices were 10 percent lower than during the first quarter of 1997.
