LONDON (CNI)--Rhone-Poulenc Agro has finalised its takeover of the ethephon business of CFPI, a subsidiary of New Zealand group Fernz-Nufarm, R-P Agro said Thursday.
The two companies agreed the deal in June 1997. Ethephon is a crop growth regulator and was the eighth most important product in R-P Agro's portfolio in 1997. It is used in products including Prep for cotton, Cerone for wheat and Ethrel for pineapples and rubber trees.
R-P Agro said the combination of ethephon and its new active ingredient cyclanilide had enabled it to strengthen its position on the market for cotton harvesting aids. Its growth regulator Finish was launched in 1995 in Central and Latin America and gradually introduced to the major cotton-growing countries, reaching the US in 1997.
