ABB-led group wins Tashkent turnkey deal

A consortium led by ABB Lummus has clinched a lumpsum turnkey contract, worth over US$600m, to build National Corp Uzbekneftegas' 140 000 tonne/year ethylene cracker. The project at the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will start up by end-2000.

The other consortium members are ABB Soimi of Italy and Japanese companies Nissho Iwai, Mitsui & Co and Toyo Engineering.

The project will be funded by Export Banks of Japan and the US and German export credit agent Hermes. Financial arrangements have been completed. The complex includes a 125 000 tonne/year lldPE unit and a butene-1 co-polymer unit. ABB Lummus and Nova Chemicals will supply the technology.
