Long-awaited legislation to provide biomaterials suppliers with certain protections in product liability lawsuits may soon come to a vote on the House floor.

The House may act on a bill introduced by Rep. George Gekas (R-Pa.) before Congress leaves on its traditional August recess, according to congressional staffers. The bill cleared both the House Judiciary and Commerce committees earlier this year with strong bipartisan support.

The House bill would generally exempt suppliers of biomaterials from lawsuits alleging defective implantable medical devices, except in cases of genuine fault.
