BASF and Shanghai Gao Qiao Petroleum are expanding their dispersions joint venture which was established in 1992.
Output, which currently stands at 50 000 tonne/year, will initially be expanded by debottlenecking the plant, taking capacity up to 60 000 tonne/year by the end of 1998. A new polymerisation line will then be added, taking total capacity to 110 000 tonne/year. This phase of the expansion is due for completion at the end of 2000. The new capacity will serve the expanding coated paper industry in China.
Last year BASF and Shanghai Gao Qiao Petrochemical announced plans to invest $474m to build 100 000 tonne/year of MDI and TDI at the Shanghai Caojing Industrial Zone. The facilities are due to come onstream at the end of 2001.
