LONDON (CNI)--BP is having to resubmit its application to merge with Amoco following the European Commission's finding that the original filing was incomplete, CNI heard Wednesday.

A BP spokesman said BP is currently putting together the application in-house, and plans to re-file in the coming weeks. The missing information is not major, he said, but he declined to elaborate.

"We don't expect it to delay the original overall timetable for the merger," he added.

BP and Amoco expect the merger to be completed before the end of the year.

BP originally notified the Commission on 24 September, triggering a four week investigation. When it resubmits its application it will again have four weeks, after which - if the application is correctly completed - the Commission will announce its decision, explained a Commission source. If the merger application is not cleared within the initial four week period, an in-depth four month investigation follows, the source added.
