SINGAPORE (CNI)--The world's nylon and intermediates business has room for one more caprolactam plant, although demand will likely stay flat in 1999 and could start to pick up in 2000, Peter Driscoll, senior partner, PCI Consulting Group, stated Friday.
Driscoll told delegates to the 1998 World Fibres & Feedstocks Conference here that long term caprolactam demand growth would range around 3.7%/year, and is forecast to reach 4.6mm tonne by 2005. Current level is about 4.0m tonne.
He added: "That's in line with nylon 6 demand growth."
However, he emphasised, caprolactam's long term prospects would only be favourable if capacity growth is "restrained".
The two-day conference ends Friday. It is organised by Asian Chemical News, European Chemical News and PCI Consulting Group.
