LONDON (CNI)--BP told CNI Monday it would like to become operator of the Wilton cracker it jointly owns 20:80 with ICI.
The UK oil and chemical group also is looking to increase its ownership stake in the cracker.
Mike Buzzacott, a director of BP Chemicals and head of its polymers and olefins division, said that operating the cracker in conjunction with other BP facilities in Grangemouth and Hull would give more feedstock flexibility.
BP has had discussions with ICI about increasing its stake from 20%. Buzzacott said about 50% ownership is possible but the talks are not close to conclusion.
Among options discussed with ICI are various scenarios for increased ownership share, and the possibility of being the operator, he said.
