Henkel Corporation, through its nutrition and health group, and Central Soya Company have formed a joint venture to manufacture soy-based isoflavone products for use in health-promoting dietary supplements and functional foods.HCS Nutritional Resources, the joint venture, will develop, manufacture and market isoflavone products under the Prevastein brand to the international nutritional supplement and food ingredients sectors. The products will be available next January.
Central Soya will provide HCS soy-based raw materials and market soy isoflavones to the functional foods industry, and Henkel will market the joint venture's soy isoflavones to the nutritional supplement industry.
"Through this alliance, Central Soya and Henkel will offer exciting new soy-based products to the high-growth nutrition supplementation and functional food markets," says Jim McCarthy, group vice-president for Central Soya. "Our joint venture will market these ingredients to the growing number of companies developing products to meet the rapidly rising consumer demand for isoflavones."
Isoflavones are antioxidants that protect cells from free radical damage. They are being extensively researched for their potential to reduce the risk of chronic diseases and promote the health of post-menopausal women.
