BP Amoco Chemicals is studying plans to build a second 1,4-butanediol (BDO) facility.
John Wells, chief executive of BP Amoco's new BDO business said: 'The design of the new 120 000 tonne/year plant is slated to begin next year'.
The company announced its plans as construction work began on its first world-scale BDO facility at Lima, Ohio, US.
The 65 000 tonne/year facility will start up mid-2000 and use Geminox technology, developed by BP Amoco and Lurgi Öl-Gas-Chemie. Three companies have been awarded contracts to build the plant ECN 10 August 1998)(.
