LONDON (CNI)--BP Amoco Chemicals is to be headquartered in London, guided by a four-strong executive group and run by 19 operations managers will each be responsible for a business unit in the merged operation, CNI was told Wednesday.
Bryan Sanderson, chief executive, said the chemicals business of the Anglo-American giant would be headquartered in the UK "for the immediate future" in line with the whole group's efforts to consolidate the merged operations from London.
He said an executive committee of four senior managers would report to him, being responsible for areas such as strategic management and coaching but would not have operational responsibilities. He emphasised that the four-member group did not indicate four divisions were being created but that the chemicals activities would be run as 19 business units, each governed by a single manager tasked to meet performance targets.
Sanderson said the arrangement was in line with the strategic management model used by BP before its merger with Amoco, and that the use of the BP-approach to corporate structure was agreed when forming the merger.
