LONDON (CNI)--BP Amoco has approved plans for a 250 000 tonne/year alpha olefins plant at Nova Chemicals' site at Joffre in Alberta, Canada.

The project was planned by Amoco prior to its merger with BP and the plant is due to start-up in the second quarter of 2001.

Mark Noetzel, BP Amoco Chemicals feedstock manager, told CNI the new plant will be supplied with ethylene by Nova and its output will feed the company's polyethylene co-monomer production.
