Jean-René Fourtou has not ruled out merging Rhodia and Hoechst chemicals subsidiaries under the Aventis umbrella as a first step to their eventual divestment.
In a letter to the CFDT trades union he promised to avoid job losses in France, but would have the jobs issue ironed out in between three and four years time. He declined to give a figure of job losses, saying that studies are being carried out.
