BP Amoco Chemical's Cativa technology has been licensed by Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertiliser for its acetic acid facility in Bharuch, India.

The output of the facility is being increased from 50 000 tonne/year to 100 000 tonne/year. The new capacity will become available during the last quarter of 2001.

The expansion is reported to involve an investment of around $17m.

A technology transfer contract between BP Amoco Chemical and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers was signed last year.

The reduced cost of the Cativa process and the ability to retro-fit the technology were among the reasons the technology was selected.
