HOECHST's planned merger with RhÖne-Poulenc has received three separate legal challenges from shareholders despite receiving overwhelming support during an extraordinary shareholders' meeting. RAISIO has launched an oat flakes and bran product in Finland that is rich in beta-glucan, a natural and soluble oat fiber that helps reduce cholesterol. Research shows that beta-glucan can reduce cholesterol by 5 percent, according to Raisio. SHELL is at an advanced stage of negotiations to sell its 50 percent stake in the polystyrene conversion company Synbra BV to Gilde Buy-Out Fund BV. Shell BV is also close to finalizing a deal under which it will sell its wholly owned subsidiary Dansk Styropack to Synbra.
