LONDON (CNI)--An official UK study into pesticide residues in food in 1998 has found that 1.3% of samples tested had residues above the maximum residue limit (MRL).
Residues below the MRL were found in 26% of samples, and in less than 1% of samples non-approved UK uses of pesticides were detected.
The report, produced by the Working Party on Pesticide Residues, includes results for over 2200 samples.
It identified, for the first time, major food retail outlets which had sold produce with pesticide residues above the MRL.
