Lyondell Chemical Company now manufactures tertiary butyl acetate (TBAc) in commercial volumes and is the first company to do so in the US. As a cost-effective new building block for organic synthesis, TBAc offers chemists a versatile alternative for the synthesis of active pharma ingredients, pesticides and other fine chemicals.TBAc can be used as a process solvent in reactions, extractions, crystallizations and polymerizations. It expands Lyondell's line of process solvents, which includes Arcopure HP-MTBE. In addition, TBAc can be used as an organic synthesis reagent, and it can serve in enolate ion additions in its Li, MgBr or ZnBr forms. It can also be used in carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions, such as halide displacements and additions to carbonyls.
