LONDON (CNI)--German chemicals company Celanese announced Wednesday it has sold the US part of its Celgard LLC separation company to US firm Daramic. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed.
Celanese will retain Celgard's Wiesbaden, Germany activities, and options for this business - which is the smaller of the two - are currently being reviewed, a spokesman said. The Wiesbaden business employs just 30 people, he added.
Claudio Sonder, Celanese's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "The sale is another step in our strategy to concentrate on our core businesses acetyl products, acetate products, chemical intermediates, technical polymers and performance products."
Celgard manufactures and markets flat sheet separators for use in batteries, disposable lighters, blood oxygenators and hollow fibre membranes for degassing liquids. Last year it generated sales of Euro49m ($49m) - mainly from the US business.
Daramic is a manufacturer and supplier of microporous separators and membranes.
