SINGAPORE (CNI)--Celanese AG intends to expand its involvement in Asia over the next few years, probably through new investments, and Singapore will play a central role in this strategy, CNI noted Tuesday.
Addressing a luncheon at the Fifth Asia Pacific Chemical Industry Meeting here, Knut Zeptner, chief executive officer of subsidiary Celanese Chemicals and Acetate, said Celanese wants to grow significantly its regional sales - currently at some $600.00m (Euro612.24m)/year - over the next few years.
He added that Celanese has the option to build four more plants at its manufacturing site at petrochemical hub Jurong Island, where it operates a 150 000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer unit and an acetate esters plant of similar capacity.
Its third Singapore facility, a 500 000 tonne/year acetic acid unit, is expected onstream by mid-year.
Celanese also is looking at investment opportunities in China, Zeptner added.
