LONDON (CNI)--German specialty chemicals manufacturer Degussa-Huls is to raise worldwide pigment blacks prices by 4-8% and may consider a further increase if there is no decline in feedstock costs.
It said Tuesday that the price rises would take effect from 15 March for all regions apart from Asia, Australia and Oceania where the increases will be introduced from 1 April.
Degussa-Huls, which claims to be the world's second largest manufacturer of pigment blacks, blamed dramatic rises in raw materials costs for the price adjustments.
Raphael Eckhard, overseas sales director for Degussa-Huls, told CNI that the announced price rises reflected only part of the increased feedstock costs. "I do not discount the possibility of another increase further down the road if feedstock costs continue at their current level or rise," he added.
The company's range of pigment blacks comprises furnace, gas and lamp blacks for the plastics, inks and coatings industry.
Last week Degussa-Huls announced plans to raise European rubber blacks prices by an average of 2-3.5%, citing higher crude oil prices and carbon blacks feedstock costs.
