Orica pleads guilty to improper chem storage, safety lapse

SINGAPORE (CNI)--Orica Ltd, Australia's explosives and chemicals major, pleaded guilty to several counts of improper storage of chemicals and failing to take proper precautions to prevent fire and explosion at its site in Deer Park, Melbourne, according to reports from Australia CNI received Friday.

Judgement is expected next (20 March) week.

An Orica spokesman declined to comment when approached by CNI.

He said: "As this is a pending court case I cannot make any comment at this stage. We will put out a statement after the court has made its judgement next week."
